Why I’m Running

I’m running for McDonough City Council to make an already caring, vibrant community an even better one. McDonough is a community that I’m proud of where it has come from, and I believe in its future. I am proud to say that I am from McDonough, and of our community, our diversity, our ingenuity and our grace.

As a three term veteran of the McDonough City Council, I am running to continue my legacy as a supporter and catalyst for a caring and vibrant community. As a homegrown representative I am proud of the origin of McDonough and extremely excited about where we are headed. Making McDonough the best that it can be is my goal and promise to those of you who also call McDonough home.

"Proud to Serve the People of District 4 in McDonough, GA"

Kamali Varner

Meet "Kam"

I am a native of the City of McDonough and as a third term member of the McDonough City Council, I am a devoted servant who tirelessly puts the needs of the community first. Inspired by family, faith, and love for my community, I am a true luminary in the world of local governance. Elected at 29, I made history as one of the youngest officials ever in McDonough’s storied history.

As a proud graduate of Henry County High School and a dedicated member of Shiloh Baptist Church, my leadership journey began when I served as president of the Youth ministry. I continue to make an impact for my journey has been marked by remarkable accomplishments including a recipient of accolades from the Henry County NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Caribbean Association of Georgia.

Armed with a degree in Organizational Leadership and a Master’s in Public Administration, I took on pivotal roles as Board member of Youth Leadership Henry, Board member of the McDonough Main Street Program, and the visionary founder of the McDonough Youth Advisory Council, the county’s first municipal youth council.

My commitment to preserving history led to the creation of the groundbreaking "Blacksville" documentary, shedding light on the rich heritage of the historically black community in McDonough. My visionary partnership with the Henry County Board of Commissioners, Henry County School Board and Shaquille O’Neal brought the Shaquille O'Neal Boys and Girls Club to McDonough's District 4.

My transformative leadership in representing District 4 post-recession stands as a testament to my strategic approach. I skillfully preserved the district's unique identity while elevating it into the city's most robust economic engine. My unrivaled dedication ensured that District 4 remained vibrant and distinctive, seamlessly combining its character with progressive development. These accomplishments showcase my visionary approach and unwavering commitment to creating a thriving, one-of-a-kind community.

My proudest accomplishment is being the mother of three amazing sons, a testament to my dedication to family and community alike.

“With Your Help We Will Continue to Prosper”

McDonough City Council

District 4

District 4 is a unique district with boundless optimism for the future. The South Point development is credited for being the strongest economic engine in the city. The balanced mix of industry, commerce, and retail businesses, and residential provides a broad range of living and employment opportunities; which ultimately amounts to strong tax base.

District 4 represents the best in mixed- use development integration with inviting residential communities built with pedestrians in mind. Additionally, our communities 20 years and greater have sustainable infrastructures and citizens who truly are about their neighbors. Keeping this spirit is important to me and with your help we will continue to prosper.
